Skincare Awareness Month: Adjusting Your Skin Routine With The Seasons.
This month, we celebrate Skin Care Awareness and the transition from Summer to Fall. As the weather gets cooler and drier, your skin may need some extra TLC. Here are some of the best skincare changes to make as pumpkin season beckons.
Switch to a thicker moisturizer.
A lightweight moisturizer may be enough for your skin in the summer, but you'll need something more substantial in the Fall. Look for a moisturizer that contains humectants, such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or urea, to attract moisture to the skin. Swapping out a facial lotion for a thicker cream is always helpful. Layering a nourishing and hydrating serum under your moisturizer will help lock in moisture and provide extra hydration. Check out our Sincere Vitamin C Moisture Complex- with unrefined shea butter, borage seed oil, seaweed, golden jojoba oil, comfrey, rose petals, seaweed, sea buckthorn CO2, oat extracts, and True Moisture Crème- also with unrefined shea butter, beeswax, borage seed oil, foraha oil, rose extracts, Bulgarian rose hydrosol. comfrey, and oat extracts. Layer with our Happy Hydration Serum- which contains wheat germ oil, seaweed, rosehips, rose extracts, pomegranate seed oil, and comfrey.
Hydrate the body from the inside out.
Add moisture from the inside out by drinking good, quality spring water packed with natural, healthy minerals. (Mountain Valley Spring Water is my favorite).
Cleanse with a Milk or Cream Cleanser
Switch to a mild hydrating milk or cream cleanser such as our Kindhearted Milk Cleanser, which hydrates gently with seaweed, aloe vera gel, and echinacea. Also, try our Lovely crème Cleanse, which is plant-powered with Bulgarian rose hydrosol, rose extracts, aloe vera, rosehips, comfrey, chamomile, and seaweed. A mild cleanser is always recommended for daily skincare in the Fall months as they do not dry out the skin, and yet they provide added hydration.
Add an Eye Cream To Your Routine
The delicate skin around your eyes can also become dry and irritated in the Fall. An eye cream can help to hydrate and protect this area. Our Energetic Reparative Eye Crème has only plant-based ingredients to soothe the under eye and remove puffiness with unrefined shea butter, aloe vera, comfrey root, avocado oil, golden jojoba oil, borage seed oil.
Use Lip Balm
Your lips are especially vulnerable to dryness in the Fall. Make sure to apply a lip balm throughout the day to keep them hydrated. I like to use Organic Caster Oil at night as a lip treatment and Dr. Bonners Organic Lip Balms are my absolute FAVS!
Minimize Exfoliation Or Use A Mild Exfoliator
Exfoliating can help remove dead skin cells, but it can also dry out your skin. With cooler temperatures, it is best to exfoliate less frequently, such as two or three times a week, with a very mild exfoliator. Check out our Ambitious AHA Gel Mask- with alpha hydroxy acids from bilberry, orange, and lemon, along with enzymes of pineapple and papaya help with cellular turnover, which gets rid of dry/flaky skin and reveals new plump skin cells that create glowing skin. Our AHA and enzymes are so mild they can be used more often. Exfoliation will help your skin become more receptive to our nourishing plant-based ingredients.
Use A Humidifier Or Something Similar
A humidifier can help to add moisture to the air, which can be beneficial for your skin. Here are the benefits of a humidifer- can reduce allergies, help emiminate snoring, combat dry skin and hair, ease sinus probelms. use distilled or filtered water and clean every 3 days. The one issue with using a humidifer is concern for mold growing inside.
An upgrade to the humidifier would be The Care Pod. Made of stainless steel, it is very easy to clean. it is more expensive but so worth it! The biggest issue with using a humidifer is the issue of mold growing inside. Worth the $$ because it is stainless steel and can be sterilized on a regular basis.
Amp Up Your Evening Skin Routine
The Freegirl Angelic Night Time Serum has licorice CO2, pomegranate seed oil, rose petals, virgin coconut oil, sea buckthorn, and seaweed and is a corrective nighttime treatment that helps improve the look of discoloration from acne, scarring, sun damage, and hormone-related hyperpigmentation. The licorice, lemon, and oils work to balance and brighten the complexion, keeping the tissue toned and protected from further oxidative stress.
Wear sunscreen every day.
Sunscreen is important for protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays, regardless of the season. But it's especially important in the Fall when the sun's rays are more direct. For sun repair, our Divine Cellular Renewal Serum contains nutrient-rich plant extracts to help improve the look of scar tissue, fine lines, and sun-exposed skin with rosehips, sea buckthorn, calendula, and rosemary to support healthy exfoliation and renewal, minimizing the appearance of scars and smoothing out uneven skin tones and texture.
Layer Your Products
I love to layer my products. A nourishing serum (full of hydrating ingredients) layered under a moisturizer always gives me an extra boost of hydration and helps my moisturizer stay with me throughout my day. Another tip for Fall: I like to add a carrier oil to my routine by adding a drop of organic Golden Jojoba oil to my Sincere Vitamin C Moisture Complex. All you need is a tiny drop!
Make routine changes to Acne- Prone skin.
Dry weather can dry out acne-prone skin, causing further irritation. So, it is best to avoid harsh acne products with skin-stripping ingredients. Instead, choose an all-natural, plant-based, hydrating cleanser that is very mild, such as Kindhearted Cleansing Milk, which will hydrate, nourish, heal, calm, and protect your skin through the winter months. Layer Happy Hydration with True Moisture to avoid further irritation on cooler days. When it comes to acne, I always like to keep sugar at a minimum, take a good probiotic, and stay away from dairy!
